Review of X-Men: First Class (2011) by Steve A — 13 Nov 2013
The first good X-Men movie in a long time. It was a breath of fresh air that the movie didn't revolve around Wolverine, and focused on how two arch enemies came to be. Terrific plot, and very well scripted to the point where I cared about the characters.
I actually didn't see the blatantly obvious things coming (i.e, how Xavier got into a wheelchair) because I was so far into the depth. The thing that I weren't fond of however were that half the powers were utterly stupid and most the other half just mocked already existing powers.
Also, the character of Mystique is entirely unlikable on any level, because what is in the place of what will be a wonderful right hand to the story's main antagonist is a brainless shell, switching from good to evil for seemingly no reason at all.
Pretty good movie altogether; this is fun to be had for the most part.
