Review of X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) by Rachel H — 02 May 2015

Directed by Bryan Singer and scripted by Simon Kinberg, Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn, this installment of the X-Men series narrates a story of how Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is teleported back in time to stop the assassination of the inventor of the Sentinels i.e. machined robots used to kill all the mutants existing on earth. Where Mystique a.k.a. Raven's (Jennifer Lawrence) targeted shooting of Dr. Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinlkage) is substantiated by defending the mutants, the assassination enables the government to shoot Mystique thus using her DNA to breathe life into the Sentinels.

Let's start with what I didn't like about the movie, since there's only one thing to it.

Question- What's this movie about?

Answer- Mutants.

Analysis- Where were the mutants in this film???

Report- I mean, yes, it wasn't like there were no mutants. But this film focused more on Professor Xavier(James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender). The revolutions sought by the mutants as a team was to an extent missing from this film which was a minor setback.

But.

Now let's talk about what I loved about this film. First and foremost- the best character in this film was Peter (Evan Peters)- with the power of speediness and swiftness, he brought in something fresh and fun (though his role did not have a long screen presence). It was enthralling to see all the actors from the previous installments again. And the most magnetic actor- Hugh Jackman- he held the entire movie together.

With amazing visual effects and editing by the veteran (and one of my favorite editors) John Ottman, this movie was bound collectively by a perfectly shared charisma and thrill. It surely had a slight tilt towards exoneration and acceptance which were emotionally more challenging than an actual event of retribution and power thriving endeavors like the previous films. This is what made this movie specifically different from the other ones.

To sum up- you have to watch this movie if you are a die-hard fan of the X-Men series like I am as this movie is going to change the course of all the futuristic chapters that are yet to be released.
