Review of X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) by Jesus A — 04 Jan 2015
Review:
I really enjoyed the first half of this movie, mainly because of Quicksilver and the witty script, but it seemed to slow down in the second half. That's not to say that the film wasn't very entertaining and well written, but it just lacked the punch once Magneto travels down the wrong path. Mystique/Raven doesn't know if she's coming or going throughout the whole movie and Professor X takes some convincing to bring the X-Men back together after suffering depression from losing a lot of his old friends. The plot was very well put together and it was great to see some of the old faces again. Wolverine plays a huge part in the storyline because he has to go to the past to save the future, but we don't really get to see him kick butt like we're used to because his claws are made of wood. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the film and I can't wait to see what they're going to do with the 3rd instalment of this reboot. I didn't really understand the extra bit right at the end, but I'm sure that it will all come to light. Enjoyable!
Round-Up:
Why did the X-Men ditch Quicksilver when they were going to look for Mystique? I'm sure they could have used his speedy disappearing skills near the end. Anyway, at first, I wasn't that impressed with Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine but I really can't see him being played by anyone else now. As I'm not familiar with the comics, I don't know how raw Wolverine is supposed to be so I can't really compare him with anything. Apart from that, I loved the relationship between Magneto and Professor X, old and present, and the scene when Quicksilver was taking down the law to save Magneto was absolutely brilliant. The baddie robots looked impressive and Mystique's fighting skills were great but we didn't really get to see what the X-Men are capable of. Maybe that's all to come!
Budget: $200million.
Worldwide Gross: $746million.
I recommend this movie to people who are familiar with the X-Men, who have to save the future by going to the past to stop a professor from making robots to kill the mutants. 8/10.
