Review of X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) by Stefano C — 04 Jan 2018
Days of Future Past does a fantastic job of balancing and pacing a time travel film which is something nearly no other filmmaker can do. The film does a great job of crafting emotional connection between its main characters, specifically between young Charles, young Eric, and Logan.
These three men craft a deep connection with the audience and making them the center of the story keeps any problems a time travel movie would create (being extremely jumbled) from happening. Instead of getting a jumbled mess, we get a thrilling chase movie inside a time travel movie that has fantastic performances that creates genuine emotion and has perfect pacing.
This also benefits from intrigue created from the dark tone and intensity created in the intro. As a whole there are no real flaws in a film that could have gone wrong in a lot of places. This shows extremely skilled film making and terrific acting that creates a dark but fun tone and great intensity that still has a satisfying emotional climax.
(also a great score) ;).
