Review of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by Will L — 10 Oct 2016

Great to see Wolverine unleashed as an animal, unfortunately the villain Apocalypse really feels underused and such a clichÃÂ (C) entry into the X men universe. I liked the voice and idea of Apocalypse but the character is wasted in every sense of the word.

Singer has become Ratner in certain ways and forgets to explore instead of destroy everything, I think they forget action isn't the way to fans hearts. We like a well told story where the action means something, nothing felt threatening or the world was near destruction.

I miss the times of X2 or First Class, even Days of future past got most things right, they didn't have a bloated budget that was special effects over drive. The characters that are introduced are very good and I think the next step for the characters will be interesting.

Deadpool has shown the spinoffs can work and with a large character list, this series has room to go. This is slight mistep but not a franchise killing installment, they merely need to cut down the budget and have some fun.

If you spend a 250m budget, give us 3 hours and stop cramming, we will sit there so give audiences the chance. Just rewatched this film and it is much worse on second viewing, Singer really dropped the ball here.
