Review of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by Kirk S — 12 Nov 2016
Oh dear....
Doomed to repeat the curse of the third of the series being the worst - Jean Grey's ironic statement in the film echoes this.
It's all a bit of a mess really and lacks the class of the previous two.
Apocalypse is a poor villain despite casting such a credible actor. His motivations are shoddy and his powers are inexplicable and only serve as plot devices.
All of the other cast are unremarkable - even Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique has devolved into a blue Katniss with less personality.
Quicksilver is also daft and just recycles his scene in Days of Future Past. Perhaps the biggest disservice to the character was not revealing to Magneto that he was his son when there was the perfect opportunity to do so.
Phoenix once again just serves as a convenient foil to trump the big bad.
I think it's time to put the series to rest for a while and focus on something more interesting like X-Force.
