Review of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by Merijn J — 11 May 2018
(63/100).
The first 3/4 of this movie were great, it felt like a Bryan Singer X-Men movie. But, it really falls apart in the end with this CGI-heavy-world-ending plot that just feels kind off out of place. It's ok to use CGI, Infinity War used a lot and it was great, but when the CGI is bad it just feels wrong. The cast is great though, and I love that this movie is the continuation of X-Men: First Class (2011) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Sadly, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) is a one dimensional villain only wanting to destroy the world and build a better one in his image. What was so great about the previous 2 X-Men movies was that it was grounded and not so world-ending. Overall, it's a bit of a disappointment but I am excited to see X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
