Review of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by Imthenoob — 11 Sep 2016
The new additions were great. Sophie Turner as Jean Grey was a welcome addition and I liked Oscar Issac as Apocalypse. As always, The growing and experienced cast does a great job. That being said, I've grown tired of this series. They recycled a lot of content from previous films and it made this film suffer quite a bit. The only thing good about this movie is that it helps set up moving away from other characters.
Jackman is retiring as Wolverine and by going into the past for new stories, They can explore more while leaving out the character that really made the series what it is. I think Turner is a nice replacement for Lawrence as well, Who's contract has expired and it doesn't seem like she is going to re-new it. Mystique has grown stale and by re-introducing Jean through the very talented Turner, You get a near even swap while also giving fans a familiar character that you can explore the backstory of.
The film as a whole is ok. It's a little bit better than The Wolverine but compared to Days of Future Past and First Class, It's dead last.
