Review of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by John Eric D — 10 Sep 2016
I understand how critics didn't like it. Say they didn't like the characterization and stuff and it's given. But one thing for sure, I love the story telling. Even though this is so Hollywood-ish if you compared to its comic roots.
You can definitely see the work of Singer in terms of writing. It has the slowest character introductions that may bored you to hell. But I was really into it and I invest so much interest watching how the story progresses.
And the performances are good. I mean McCavoy and Fassbender should definitely stay in the series. And a Wolverine cameo in an X-Men film? How disappointing is that. They put more importance to Mystique's character cause she's Jennifer Lawrence.
.duh.. You can see how marketing works here, which hardcore fans left disappointed for sure. But overall this is still a solid X-Men film. The visuals are okay, we see a lot of visuals like this (disaster films for instance).
And judging Apocalypse as a whole, I see him not as Apocalypse but I think they are trying hard to make a more menacing Apocalypse on screen than what we are used to see in the comics / cartoons. It worked a bit but not quite.
I want a more badass Apocalypse. It could have been better IMO. This is still a worth watching blockbuster but they could do it a little better next time. I can't wait for the next one.
