Review of Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead (2014) by Robby B — 06 Apr 2015
If 'The Walking Dead' has taught us anything, it's that human beings in post-apocalyptic zombie land are far more dangerous than the zombies themselves. This premise is teased out in 'Wyrmwood' - a zombie blood-splatter film set in the Australian outback.
Influenced by the Aussie zombie comedy film 'Undead' (2003), and with similar end-of-the-earth and nihilistic themes to the recent Aussie drama flick 'These Final Hours' (2013), Wyrmwood is shrewdly directed with ferociously invasive handheld camera and sharp cinematography.
However, while Wyrmwood is an impressive feature film debut from Kiah Roache-Turner, the performances lacked subtext and depth, resulting in one-dimemsional characters and dialogue which came across as over-scripted and over-rehearsed.
