Arnold transposes her gritty, minimalistic style from council estates to the costume drama with a visceral take on Emily Brontë's classic novel, the story of which is difficult to empathise with but which benefits from being presented in vivid, cinematic detail, despite the use of an archaic 4:3 aspect ratio.
