Review of Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead (2009) by Hedvika P — 23 Dec 2009
I enjoyed the first Wrong Turn immensely. It came as a gory surprise and aside from a silly open ending (at the end of the final credits) and a wooden lead everything else for me worked in its short running time.
Then came a complete wrong turn in the form of its first sequel. Approved of by many horror fans it left me cold. Poorly executed gore and directed over enthusiastically, for no good reason, by Joe Lynch, it was a complete disappointment.
Upon reading online reviews saying that this installment was even worse didnt exactly warm me up to the idea of watching it. But what the Hell, I did. It was ok, better than expected and an improvement on the first sequel.
Aside from the odd bit of CGI blood (it doesn't cut the mustard fellas, don't do it!) the killings were fun and there were enough character dynamics to keep it predictably ticking over. Wrong Turn 3 does nothing new and has tonnes of faults but as far as direct-to-video movies go it's to be warmly recommended for being exactly what it is, a dumb horror, and there's nothing wrong with watching one of those every now and again.
