Review of Wrong Turn (2003) by Al M — 10 Aug 2010
Derivative and somewhat stupid, Wrong Turn is still a fun and trashy little horror film filled with creepy hillbillies and some genuinely brutal scenes. Unfortunately, Wrong Turn never quite develops itself in original enough ways to be truly great--it's a 21st Century version of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Deliverance.
It does hint at the torture porn films that will come to dominate theatres a few years afterwards, but it never quite follows through on its premises in a genuinely scary way. Instead, it always feels a little silly, but still provides a decent enough film to watch for horror fans.
