Review of Wrath of the Titans (2012) by Adam F — 27 Feb 2013
"Wrath of the Titans" is not only bad, it's worse than 2010's "Clash of the Titans" which was nothing to write home about. The plot isn't just a retread of the first film (thank the gods) but it doesn't really have a lot of depth and often feels cheesy and uninspired.
The characters have little charisma and Sam Worthington in particular offers nothing to the audience whatsoever. The only thing that really works are the special effects and creature designs. There are a lot of special effects in the locations and monsters and these are taken in new directions that are fun to see.
We get Chimeras, a Minotaur, a real Titan and legions of cool-looking minions. The monsters and special effects look great on the big screen because many of them are supposed to be massive so you feel like you're watching them to scale in the theatre.
The special effects don't make up for the worst romance sub plot in a film that you will ever see and dialogue that is really painful to listen to. (Theatrical 2-D version, April, 2012).
