Review of Wrath of the Titans (2012) by Michael K — 25 Mar 2013
"~Zeus: You will learn someday that being half-human makes you stronger than a god.".
Wrath Of The Titans is the sequel to 2010's Clash Of The Titans, and its subpar in many ways, but one way that its not is the spectacularly eye-popping action sequences and special effects. In many ways it's the same movie inside and out except for different enemies and a different story. One thing remains the same throughout this optically dazzling endeaver are the state of the art special effects, the visuals in this film are absolutely stunning throughout. The summer season of 2012 was kicked off with this blazing hot and sizzlingly entertaining popcorn flick. South African Director Jonathan Liebsman (Battle: Los Angeles, The Killing Room, Darkness Falls) helmed this visual feast, but as with most of Liebsman's films, The Wrath Of The Titans is the definition style over substance, the plot is lacking, the acting is way over the top and pushed and as usual there are no interesting characters or any character development. If your in the mood for an action adventure though, Wrath Of The Titans will more than give you your fix..guaranteed. Its worth noting that nothing will ever come close to the original Clash Of The Titans and Wrath Of The Titans films..NOTHING. The entertainment factor is high with this one, but its pure style and takes no brains to get through this one. Will there be a third? Time will tell, but I could do without.
The cast is stacked, but the acting suffers from an awful script, and that makes for a terrible waste of talent. Sam Worthington reprises his role as Perseus and honestly, hes better than this. Gemma Arteron does well. Liam Neeson never disappoints. Ralph Fiennes is the films only bright spot in his role as Hades. Edgar Ramirez, Rosamund Pike, and Bill Nighy all give supporting roles.
