Review of Woyzeck (1979) by Walter M — 11 Jan 2005
Before the reviews I just wanted to say I updated my sticky for 2005. I'm sure I forgot a couple of films I want to see this year, so I will continue to update it.

Dekalog (Kieslowski 88').
The Dekalog is 10 films dealing with the ten commandments. Every film is about a resident of an apartment complex in Poland. While not as good as Kieslowski Three Colors Trilogy, half of the films in the Dekalog are really good if not great. The other half are mediocre or pretty good, thus none of the films are bad. Overall, the Dekalog is a challenging and thought-provoking series of films are a must see for anyone who enjoyed the Three Colors Trilogy.
Rating: 8.0/10.

Bad Santa (Zwigoff 03').
I was really disappointed in this film and Zwigoff. Bad Santa starts off funny until you realize that the whole film is just one joke. After 45 minutes, I was pretty bored. After a while the film got rather predictable. Overall, Bad Santa starts high, and then goes straight into a nose dive.
Rating: 5.0/10.

Woyzeck (Herzog 79').
By far the weakest Herzog I have seen, Woyzeck still managed to provoke my emotions. Kinski has a great performance has the lowly and slight retarded officer. I could not help, but feel sorry for Woyzeck because of how horribly he is treated. On the other hand, the ending sucked and there was an abuse of slow-mo by Herzog. Decent flick overall. Recommendable to Herzog and/or Kinski fans.
Rating: 6.5/10.

Short Cuts (Altman 93').
Short Cuts is a huge slice of LA life. A slice so big, I felt like puking after half way through it. I really hated all 20 self centered characters (I don't remember how many characters there actually were) 75% of the time, but I guess just how people are in LA. It's strange though, because I was very drawn to the last 45 minutes of this film. I'm not quite sure what I think of the film as a whole, but for some reason I somewhat enjoyed the majority of it.
Rating: 7.0/10.
