There's no character development, progression, or understanding besides what the film spoon feeds us about each of them - characters are killed off before there was every any reason to feel for them.

Only near the end do the choices start to feel dangerous, but then we fall into a SAW-esque carnival and Mr. Lambrick is not nearly as cunning as Jigsaw - he's just a perv into torture porn. It's obvious from the get-go who is going to win "the game", but what isn't clear is how it was all for nothing in an understandable, but frustrating, ending.

It must be difficult to pay for your brother's hospital bills with money you won from a contest that involved killing someone and being the sole survivor of eight, but imagine how bad that must feel to come home from that and know he OD'd anyway.
