Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Dan B — 26 May 2010
Donâ??t be put off by the star or title â?? this is not some saccharine family flick. Rather it is a deeply dark comedy that gives Robin Williams his best role in years, backed by a supporting cast that is superb from top to bottom.
As in his earlier movies, writer / director Goldthwait takes an off kilter (some might say sick) idea and then pursues it relentlessly without ever flinching. The result is probably his most successful film to date; funny, moving and in its own peculiar way, filled with tremendous heart.
I hope it finds an audience, as it certainly deserves one. Highly recommended. (And incidentally it would make a great double bill with the sadly underseen Williams gem â??The Survivorsâ??.).
