Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Darron V — 17 Jun 2010

I guess I might be in the minority here, but I just didn't enjoy this movie in the least bit. I thought it was barely funny, and when it wasn't disguising, the humor in the script was just pretty dull.

So basically, Robin Williams' son kills himself masturbating, so Williams makes it look like it was a suicide, and makes it a suicide note. Then people find the suicide note and they start becoming obsessed with his son and want to read more of his material. So this is his chance to become a famous writer like he always wanted, just in a different way. Ehh for a story...I don't really care.

So as I said before, this movie wasn't really funny to me. It was trying to go for the dark satirical approach, but I just found it to be JUST dark, and not really funny. I maybe giggled once, and that's it.....so....yeah. I found myself just sitting blankly at the screen, wondering to myself why I was watching this movie, and that's not what I expected to do. With a slightly intriguing premise, I thought that this movie was going to be awesome. Well, I didn't think it was.

The performances are ehh from all actors. Robin Williams is okay, but everyone else in the movie just reads their lines, and no one really does anything special. I know that there characters don't permit them to, but still.

"World's Greatest Dad" was a dark...and just dark....comedy? I don't want to say comedy...because I really didn't think it was funny. I guess you can say that I don't get the style...actually you can't say that because I've seen countless movie of this genre that were funny, and this film was not. "World's Greatest Dad"....sucked to me, and I'm sorry if I'm the minority, but.....it sucked.
