Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Wesley R — 29 Dec 2010
A clever, dark, and funny satire on how people react to the tragedy of someone they love...or hated while they were alive. Bobcat Goldthwait has created a creative story with a wonderful performance by Robin Williams in a subdued role as a failed writer who teaches an unpopular, high school poetry class.
I don't want to give too much away, but this film really shows the many sides of people who--intentionally or unintentionally--exploit a tragedy for their own gain. The best example I can think of was the death of Anna Nicole Smith and Michael Jackson.
Both of these celebrities fell from grace to become objects of ridicule...only for everyone to treat them like infallible beings in death. Did this make you sick at your stomach? If so, then you'll feel the same way amidst the laughs in this film.
