Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by Davin G — 30 Apr 2012
A creepy and dark comedy which feels like a parody on organized religion or an insight into shallow nature of celebrity.
A father (Robin Williams) coverups the accidental death of his lonely pathetic foul 15 year old son (who actually dies while masturbating) by making it look like a suicide. The fathers writes a very evocative and heartfelt suicide note and journal to make his son out to be a very deep soul (which he was far from). The High School and community lap it up and everyone who hated him starts to revere him and begin worship him as if he were a messiah. However, the father does come clean in the end - and the movie ends with brilliant visuals of Robin Williams diving into a pool naked, and later having marijuana laced brownies with his old neighbor and his son's friend while watching a zombie movie marathon.
The end is very liberating - "What is worse than being alone is being surrounded by people who make you feel all alone".
