Review of World's Greatest Dad (2009) by David M — 21 May 2012
I realize that "starring Robin Williams" and "directed by Bobcat Goldthwait" doesn't exactly sound like the most enticing movie. It was, however, precisely the reason I wanted to see it.
So ballsy it has to work, right? Well, yes, this time. Williams is at his best muted and this is the most restraint he's had in a performance since Good Will Hunting (and his best since Death To Smoochy).
So much goes on in his face and body language that need not be Mrs. Doubtfire-Williams style blurted flamboyantly. We are reminded of how talented he can be when he isn't wasting his time. Ol' Bobcat crafts a surprisingly gripping narrative and makes even the most ridiculous moments realistic.
