Review of World War Z (2013) by Troy S — 10 Apr 2014
Very good zombie flick. I liked the slightly different spin on things in that the focus was not on the survivors and how they cope but on the efforts to determine the CAUSE of the outbreak and a possible solution. the "cure" they came up with was unique in zombie lore as well.
Be warned that this is not your customary, gore-infested zombie horror film. there really isn't much blood at all. I would not even call this a horror movie, nevertheless, there are a number of genuinely frightening moments throughout. these zombies are zombies on steroids too. they run, FAST, and they will jump sometimes tremendous distances to get at their prey. unlike the shambling, moaning "walkers" we are used to, these are like snarling, deadly-quick cheetahs.
My only complaint was the abrupt way in which the events take place. unlike the slow break down of society with the progress of the outbreak other zombie movies depict (walking dead has talked about this at length), here it just seems like we go from normal to fubar almost immediately. the very subtle mentions of various incidents on the news station brad pitt's family is listening to at the start of the film is all we get, and in my opinion, it isn't enough. minor complaint though. overall, a great film.
