Review of World War Z (2013) by Jody M — 01 May 2014
From what I've been told, this is a poor imitation of the book. It doesn't even follow the general plot.
The 'Z' in the movie title is supposed to represent 'zombie', but there's nothing at all zombielike about the film. Zombies, in my mind, are undead, whereas these 'zombies' are infected with a virus. I wouldn't call them zombies at all, but 'infected'. Big difference.
This would be all be excusable if the movie itself had a plot that didn't call for huge leaps in logic.
The only thing saving the film from the dustbin are the action setpieces, which more often than not are highly effective in eliciting suspense for the most part.
All except the final act, that is. The less said about that, the better.
All told, the movie is an acquired taste. It's definitely not for everyone.
