Review of World War Z (2013) by Tim W — 10 Aug 2014
A very good zombie movie. By defining very good I mean this movie takes "A Walking Dead" approach to the genre by making the story character driven rather than violence for violence sake. Don't get me wrong the movie does have some excellent violent moments which usually prove very cinematic especially the sequence set in Israel.
However after the Israel sequence you can't help but feel let down by the ending, the movie builds up this gargantuan tension and thrill just for it to be brought swiftly and quickly down. The computer generated zombies were another great piece to this, the moment animation couldn't help but remind me of the horde physics from Valve's Left 4 Dead which is very well executed.
However all of this aside I have heard any criticisms that the movie differs hugely from the novel (which I will be reading shortly) aside from that it is an enjoyable movie for fans of the genre, just don't expect a George A.
Romero masterpiece. It's good but falls far from great.
