Review of World War Z (2013) by Akshita J — 02 May 2015
The most amazing thriller in recent years, Director Marc Forster has given this movie his best. Though this movie did not do as well as expected in the Indian box office and was given a disappointing rating of 2 stars by critics, I really think that this movie was presented far beyond its amplitude. The concept of the apocalyptic world has become too over-rated. So when a movie tops it with Zombies in it, it is clear to many that this film too, like others of its kind, would be repetitive; too monotonous. But World War Z managed to break that barrier and enter into a whole new dimension. What sets this movie apart from other apocalyptic fictions is the fact that this movie had reason. Every situation in the movie was genuine. Though Zombies are fictional and propelled into absurdity, this movie manged to set aside this absurdity and make it into a realistic world. Though, I admit that the Zombies were presented in a very comical way and could have been exposed in a much better way.
This movie had all the elements needed into making a thriller, with just enough edge not to being classified as a horror. This movie was practical in all its livelihood. Though Zombies are fictional, this movie was able to remove this thought for the time being, making every situation very reasonable and with a rationale idea. And of course, every movie needs a apt star cast. And no one could have done this job better than Brad Pitt. Working in fictitious and technological dependent movies is a very tough job for any actor, but actors Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos and Daniella Kertesz make it look like so effortless.
The Screenplay and Background Score too, were done in an incredible way. Though what this movie lacked was clear screen shots, and add to that, the deliverance of a ridiculous rendition of Zombies.
