Review of World Trade Center (2006) by Eric O — 10 Nov 2010
Maybe it's partly due to the fact that I watched this back-to-back with United 93, but this one just didn't seem to stand up. 1st, as soon as you have a recognizable actor (cage (not even going to mention the fact that it's a HORRIBLE actor) and gyllenhaal), it loses a lot of points with me.
2nd, a lot of the lines while I guess they're realistic, feel forced: "ruuuuuuuuuun. the elevator!", "they're in a better place", "i'm pinned. bad. I cant move my legs.
I think im ok." 3rd, the extent to which oliver stone went to graphically recreate the events, it's like he's trying to hard, and then trying to juxtapose it with archival footage of actual reactions.
..i don't know...just didn't feel like he knew what he was going for. 5th, i'm sorry but those scenes with jesus were just a bit too much. 6th and overall, just trying to be SOO sentimental.
