Review of World Trade Center (2006) by Karen X — 18 Sep 2011
Very disappointed with this movie. In fact I kept fast-forwarding as it was boring me rigid.
The actual build-up to the planes hitting the WTC created some engrossing tension and their were some well-acted scenes amongst the rubble, but this had the feeling of a rushed -out film with cringing soap opera-style scenes.
By far,the movie that rises above the 9/11 batch is United 93. It was made with half the budget of World Trade Centre and had me gripped to the end... despite knowing the outcome.
For World Trade Centre to work it needed to be made now at the ten year anniversary of the attacks,by a DIFFERENT DIRECTOR.
It needed a unique style (think Schindler's List, for just one example) and an artistic approach to make it a classic and not a corny run-of-the-mill TV movie type of thing.
The memory of the 3000 who perished deserved better.
