Hertzfeldt is in full control of his craft here: the animation (while simplistic, as is characteristic of his work) is brilliant, the subtle, dark humor extremely well incorporated, and the compelling mystery of a story is so masterfully told and paced.
I can't wait to see where he takes this, as he has said he has enough material to make up to 9 episodes.
