Review of Words and Pictures (2014) by Anthony S — 01 Jun 2014
Thoroughly wet indie rom-com where Clive Owens badly overacts as a prep school lit teacher that says language is a wonderful thing, and then uses it like a blunt instrument. Juliette Binoche is more sympathetic as a new fine art teacher who isn't charmed by Owen's ways.
Until she is. The conceit of a dichotomy between these teacher's specialties is a twee way of framing their romance. It's also banal and betrays a facile understanding of the power of great art.
