Review of Woody Allen: A Documentary (2011) by Warwick B — 02 Jul 2012
An engrossing documentary of a film making legend by Robert Weide with a cast of actors, agents, critics, colleagues, and friends who observe and review his life and work. There are fascinating revelations, well chosen film clips and tv interview extracts but Allen himself is the primary story teller.
Although Weide covers a lot of ground in two hours, there are some omissions (no references to Bob Hope or Groucho Marx) and glossing over (break up with Mia Farrow and his marriage with stepdaughter Soon-Yi Penn) that may make you feel a little cheated.
Woody Allen : A Documentary entertainingly tells the story of a filmmaker who has given the world a lot of great films, many of which have become timeless classics. Not to be missed.
