Never underestimate the power of large crowds, rampant self-centeredness, lots of down time, and many, many drugs...
(An interesting historic snapshot of an interesting time, with amazing concert footage -- at a time when rock merged perfectly with blues. I cannot imagine how horrible that place must have smelled, though.).
