Review of Woodstock (1970) by Frank T — 04 Apr 2010
More than a concert film, this is a slice of social history. The bits I like best are away from the stage, the hippy yoga scene, the setting up of the stage, the torrential downpour and the mudslide. The four hour long directors cut is just long enough to appreciate the sheer scale of the event even though the guitar solos do go on a bit.
The end scene is the best with Jimi Hendrix doing his legendary star spangled banner as the camera pans around the trashed empty field. After watching all this you feel like you were actually there!
