Review of Woodlawn (2015) by Abhishek S — 02 Jan 2016
We waited to see WOODLAWN tii this weekend since school was out and one kid was home from college. We all loved it. We had to circle the room to find four seats together the theater was so packed. Enough background, what about the movie? I thought the movie was incredible.
This "small" story was executed so well considering the massive background story of the integration of Birmingham schools. It could have become lost or jumbled but it stayed on target and you were left with the understanding of what this story and these characters meant.
Tony Nathan, Coach, Johnnie (Nathan's girlfriend) all had their stories told and you left feeling as if you had been there with them. This is not just a "Christian" movie. This is a Football movie, this is a story of how important a coach can be in a player's life or in this case how important a player can be in a coach's life.
I left the theater feeling inspired and energized. We all would be blessed by inspiring our youth with our own Christian walk. This is what the first amendment means. Great performances in this movie.
Jon Voigt's portrayal of Bear Bryant was excellent. As a mother of a Bama student we loved his Auburn jokes. The Erwin brothers hit one out of the park here, or I guess I should say made a touchdown with a two point conversion.
