Review of Won't You Be My Neighbor? (2018) by Natalie C — 30 Jun 2018
Everyone in the theater shed at least one tear. My sister and I were openly weeping for at least 85% of the film but for me, the tears I cried were mostly not tears of despair but of hope and healing. It brought back memories I didn't even know I had and, honestly, gave me a few pointers on how to better interact with the children I work with in my job.
That being said, this film isn't simply some emotionally manipulative slideshow. While it's definitely intended to elicit an emotional response and presents a fairly straightforward point of view, it's an extremely well-researched and expertly executed documentary. I could go on about it more but it'd take too long and I'm sure some actual film critics have said it better than I can. So, you can read those reviews or, better yet, SEE THIS MOVIE. And bring tissues.
