Review of Won't Back Down (2012) by Mark P — 24 Sep 2012
This film, largely funded by a right wing multi-billionaire, will further polarize our varied educational communities. It is a propaganda film. Should parents have a major voice in public education? Sure.
Do teacher unions sometimes stand in the way of productive change? Sure, but so does Congress. Should we be eliminating Congress? What we need is rational dialogue, careful problem identification, shared work across different viewpoints to help solve the major problem confronting us.
This film makes no contribution to that process. It will miseducate an unsophisticated viewing audience and create walls, not build bridges.
