Review of Won't Back Down (2012) by Orlando O — 17 Feb 2013
A drama film that does have a good concept but does lack any heart into it especially with the one dimensional performances that was in it. A struggling mother Jamie ( Maggie Gyllenhaal) has two jobs and a daughter Malia ( Emily Alyn Lind) who is having difficulties learning in school.
While another mother Nona Alberts (Viola Davis) is a undedicated teacher with also a struggling son that is having a hard time learning. The two mothers plan to take action into taking back the school and making the school more dedicated in teaching there students.
The biggest conflict that the mothers are going to have to go through is confronting the school board as well as the teachers union. The story of the movie has a good concept of a mother trying so hard for her daughter getting good education while the school she is in is very unmotivated in having successful students.
Although Wont Back Down really lacked from having a well developed smart script to provide for the characters. The performances with Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis were lacking and felt forced. Even though, the two actresses do have talent.
The focus of the film felt more of a propaganda movie swaying away from being inspirational story of two mothers fighting for a good educational system. Wont Back Down has a good idea but was terribly provided on screen.
