Review of Wonderland (2003) by Caleb G — 24 Dec 2008
A well made, well pieced together movie that combines the talents of Val Kilmer, Dylan McDermott, Kate Bosworth, and a surprise dramatic performance from Lisa Kudrow. This film starts out jumpy and slightly confusing but zeros in on a sharp storyline with so many twists and turns that the end can't come too soon.
Smart writing combined with gritty film making make a fabulous work of independent movie making. The story revolves around the infamous porn star John Holmes and the Wonderland murders. Told from two testimonies involved in the investigation, the "true" story never becomes clear and that's the beauty of the film.
Keep your eyes sharp for cameos by Christina Applegate, Janeane Garofalo, and Paris Hilton. A really nice job by director James Cox and props to Val Kilmer for a terrific performance as the famous 14 inch coke head.
