Review of Wonderland (2003) by Joel J — 04 Oct 2009
Sex, Guns, Money, and Murder - never has there been a better advertising slogan for a movie of this nature. I think this might be one of the most misreviewed films that I have encountered on this site.
This is one helleva film, folks. It really is a shame that Val Kilmer got labeled as nearly impossible to work with so early in his career, because the guy has chops. His performance as a drug addicted, fallen from stardom Johnny Holmes is just great.
All these years of reveling in the mystique that is John Holmes, I had no idea that he was involved in such a gruesome murder - that he sored so low at the end. All of the performances are wonderful: Kate Bosworth, Lisa Kudrow, Josh Lucas, Dylan McDermott, etc.
I think James Cox gets a bad wrap with this one...no holds barred filmmaking, kids.
