Review of Wonderful Town (2007) by Paul K — 04 Dec 2010
I found this a hard film to get a handle on. It's very slow moving, and I was never quite sure what were the norms of behaviour in this Thai community. It only gradually became clear how the tsunami had affected life and that unstated behind this portayal of the everyday was the violent death of many people.
No obvious grieving, or trauma, but a society in despair, a crippled community. The final scenes are very disquieting. Not a comfortable film.
