Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Edmund C — 28 Jan 2018
I've watched this twice so far, on Atmos D-Box and on 2D... and fingers-crossed, will get to see it again on IMAX 3D in September ;) Yes, it is THAT good. It's that once-in-a-blue-moon movie where everything comes together, stars become aligned and the product turns out to be a gem (thank your lucky stars, DC!).
And yet, it shouldn't even be treated as a comic-book movie, or compared to other superhero movies. Wonder Woman is such a strong stand-alone movie that it should be compared to the likes of Gladiator.
. yes, Oscar-worthy, I'd say. I don't even need to dwell on the lovely chemistry between the main characters, the likeable supporting cast, the awesome cinematography (just watch those end-credits!).
Somewhere in the midst of innocent faith shattered, of hope lost and then reborn, Diana King's coming-of-age becomes our own coming-of-age; the film conveys one very pertinent and relevant insight regarding the state of our world today - this post 9-11 world, where people need to realize that it's not the gods who are at fault.
If not for anything else, everyone should watch it to be reminded what it's like to see the world with eyes of wonder.. and for the aforementioned essential message.
