Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Lebron K — 02 Mar 2018
Wonder Woman is easily the strongest and most exciting entry in the DCEU. The tone is much lighter and there is an enjoyable adventure following Diana Prince from her beginnings in Themyscria to World War I hero.
The film begins with the Amazons and their world as ancient warriors. There is some cool combat here and we are introduced to Diana in her home world. The battle sequence here is very entertaining, as two completely different groups of people are meeting each other for the first time.
Gal Gadot and Chris Pine's character Steve Trevor resemble this best. Their relationship is great and both learn from one another in each other's worlds. Some of the best scenes are their interactions and unfamiliarity with the other's way of life.
When the setting moves to London, we are introduced to an mix of supporting characters who had some more humour and humanity to the film. The group then crosses over into the Western Front in Europe. One of the greatest superhero scenes of all time is witnessed, with Wonder Woman moving into No Man's Land to take on the Germans.
The third act is a little underwhelming , thanks to the CGI heavy final battle and plot twist regarding the villains. Speaking of which, the villains are very one-dimensional and continue on the trend of weak villains in modern superhero movies.
The final act is easy to overcome however, as the rest of the movie is great. Overall, Wonder Woman is an exceptional movie and easily one of the best superhero movies of the past decade.
