Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Rolf L — 28 May 2018
Wonder Woman.
This movie was horrible. The visuals were nice, but the script felt unfinished. Gadot while looking like an anorexic Wonder Woman could not act like a Wonder Woman, she is distant from the comics, eyes, hair, muscle and lack of charisma.
Some of her lines felt forced and she was a bit limited in the dramatic scenes.
Zack Snyder was involved and I suppose this might explain all the slow-motion scenes, and fast motion scenes, and stop motion scenes, but at some point, you have to have a decent script and a leading actress that delivers.
I found more frustrating was that the movie is hailed as some feminist godsend, when in reality it suffers nearly all of the sexist clichés and tropes from all Hollywood movies. The "strong" female protagonist can't walk two feet without people commenting on her stunning beauty but is never commended for her apparent superhuman strength. It seems as though she is only valued by other characters for her apparent hotness. Not to mention that she comes across as stupid and naive, never sharp and strategic.
She simply plows through enemies without any forethought. Indeed, the movie doesn't demonstrate that she is even capable of thinking at all until the very end when she is actually forced to make a decision. She is more than a thousand-year-old but behave as a brainless teenager.
CGI can't cover for bad acting.
To market an international audience, they eliminated WW trademark stars and American theme colors from the costume.
