Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Latrice T — 19 Jun 2017
Decent, not perfect...Aside from the fact that the story I grew up with, Diana was never a child and her father was King of the Underworld, not Zeus and Steve Trevor lived to old age (I was salty he was killed off).
I felt like this was trying to be a thought provoking origin story and a spectacle all at once, but the reality is that it should have been one or the other. There a few moments where I was swelled such with righteousness that I teared up a little but by the second half, I was significantlty less in awe from the over the top CGI.
Nonetheless Gadot really shined in this historic cinematic moment. Unfortunately the same could not be said about Pine's skitish and lackluster performance. Hopefully the next installment will take a note from Captain America and find a focus that stays to develop, rather than pitter patter off.
