Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Volteer — 16 Jun 2017
This movie is just plain awful. The personality of the main character makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. They are trying to portray her as this innocent holy child who has no idea of the world "out there" and believes that every human is intrinsically good and has to be protected. But then for some reason just because some random British guy is telling her yeah the Germans are the bad guys she runs around killing them gleefully to save the British while still talking about how everyone needs to be saved and it's not their fault. Then there's the scene where the Generals say they won't attack Belgium because they want a peace treaty, and she gets enraged at them because they won't allow attacking somewhere although she really just wants everyone to have peace? What? Isn't the point of her peace keeping duty exactly to STOP this "but they have evil intentions so we HAVE to keep attacking them!" attitude?
It never felt like they actually thought a second about how to make this movie make any sense and just rushed out a lazy "cool superhero who just beats up bad guys" origin story, while at the same time trying to make her an innocent "nobody should be hurt if possible" character, which just doesn't go together like this.
