Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Aflah A — 19 Jun 2017
The film started out great. At first, I was certain that it would live up to the hype from both fans and critics alike. I was 100% positive that it would be the Wonder Woman film of my dreams and so much more.
But unfortunately, the story took a turn for the worse. I tolerated the silly, almost Scooby-Doo like Ares-secret-identity-mystery-nonsense, but when the incredibly boring theme of "Love conquers all" reared its clichà (C)d head, even the stunning visuals and bedazzling special effects couldn't save this film.
And as the story drew to a close, not only was I terribly disappointed that I didn't, nay -- couldn't, feel the impact of Chris Pine's character's heroic sacrifice because the film didn't demand that you care, but I couldn't help wondering, "What the hell am I watching??? What is this, The Fifth Element!?! Love conquers all.
.. Gimme a break!" If I was asked to describe this film in a single word, that word would be... disappointing.
