Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Jake A — 11 Jun 2017

After the disastrous films Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (yet to see Suicide Squad) from DC I didn't have all that many high hopes for this film despite Gal Gadot being the best thing about Batman v Superman, thankfully this film is not just better than those two failures but better than even some of the best DC has to offer.

Gal Gadot is once again great as the titular character, the supporting cast is solid, it looks fantastic not just technically but because it actually has colour and a sense of style that was lacking from the two films mentioned before, the score is good and the action is exhilarating.

The plot and script though an improvement over the films directed by Zack Snyder (the script for instance actually has some sense of humour and emotion while the plot is at least interesting in parts) still has its issues, there is mountains of exposition and the villain was not all that compelling.

It is also needlessly long and it is clearly a film intended to set up future installments rather than being its own film. Overall though an improvement over previous duds from DC and even matches some of their better films.
