It has taken DC 4 movies to finally get the 'Superhero' movie right. 'Wonder Woman' takes the right step of going for a war time origin story although the producers opt for WWI rather than the characters WWII comic original take.

The setting and tone are similar to Marvel's 'Captain America First Avenger' and 'Thor'. That there is a strong fish out of water vibe and an alternate version of the 'Howling Commandos' are among the many lessons that DC has learnt from it's long time rival.

Gal Gadot is 'wonderful' as Diana Princess of the Amazons, although her hero name is never uttered. Chris Pine is essentially the same performance as his Kirk one - in other words very likeable.

Comic support comes from 'The Office's Lucy Davis almost unrecognizable. One of the best things about this fun romp is that it is self contained and not looking over it's shoulder at the next adventure (which technically we've already seen).

Kudos also goes to not going down making Wonder Woman an object of male lust. She has beauty yes but characterization is paramount. The costume though classic design in bare flesh exposed, it is not titillating in the way that Linda Carter's made a generation of boys fall in love before Carrie Fisher came along, or as tight as Scarlett Johnasson's Black Widow costume.

Apart from some pacing issues in the early parts, this is perhaps the best blockbuster of the Summer (so far Spidey) but a Linda Carter cameo wouldn't have gone a miss.
