Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Juyeon S — 24 Jan 2018
Wonder Woman finally makes a decent movie to save DC at last. Few things did not work for me. How does she master hundreds of languages and don't know a goddamn thing and appears to be clueless the whole movie? It might be a nitpick, but that just kept popping up in my head as the story reinforced too many times that she knows practically nothing.
But the humor that came from such circumstances did work just fine for me. Only a few felt forced. Villain? Yes, he is underdeveloped, but as long as a big baddie poses a serious threat, I don't care since I don't expect much from hero genre to begin with.
Some pacing and editing were weird. And I did not like Gadot's performance in several important scenes. But the rest worked fine. A female in lead? Check. A love interest with some emotional ending? Check.
Character development? Check. Good action sequences? Check. Humor that actually works? Check. Good on them WB and DC for finally figuring out how to make a decent hero movie.
