Review of Wonder Woman (2017) by Francisco G — 15 Dec 2017
Finally! A heroine that is everything we want a heroine to be. Gal Gadot eludes charisma, charm, poise, bravery, and strength in the role. Patty Jenkins profoundly understood what makes this character great.
Gal Gadot's performance makes you fall in love with the character. Having previously done other strong female character's, it is no surprise to see her excel. Chris Pine works as a fantastic foil to Gadot's naively optimistic character. The charisma and dynamic is intoxicating.
Patty Jenkins, thank you. In her first big budget film, she does not disappoint. Fully embracing the behemoth task of bringing one of America's icons to life. Her collaboration with Game of Throne's Matthew Jensen, produces some genuinely breath taking sequences.
With all this being said, there were moments where the film falters. Particularly in the beginning. The pacing felt like it did not make up its mind until after. The film in the end tried to embody Wonder Woman's pure values, but it ends up coming off as a bit cheesy at best, or mines into bathos at worst.
Nonetheless, she persisted, and Jenkins created a faithful adaptation to a wonderful character. Juxtaposing the insanity of WW2, with the innocence, hope, and love that Princess Diana capacitates.
